The Woman in the Window (2021 Film), A Review…

So continuing with my recent obsession with thrillers, another film I watched on Netflix recently was “The Woman in the Window”. And of course, I had to drop in here and write something up.

Starring Amy Adams in the lead role alongside Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, and several other talented cast, the film is a psychological thriller based on the novel by A.J.Finn that came out in 2019.
For me, while I was watching the film, my automatic reaction was to compare it to “The Girl on the Train” involuntarily. Overall, it is a bit of a predictable movie that maybe feels like a rehash of past thrillers. The film features several standard cliches and relatable scenes and direction that doesn’t stand out too much. No doubt, there’s definitely a lot of potential in the story here, but maybe what is missing is that little bit of an extra kick for the movie to be a little different from other thrillers.

With a talented crew on board, there’s definitely a lot more that could have been done with a story like this one. And while the screenplay almost lets down a bit, what stole my heart was the cinematography. Scenes like the protagonist running up and down the scene portrayed without any confusion and maintaining the emotion definitely still are on top of my mind for me. So a definite A for cinematography.

But outside of that, I didn’t really have too much that stuck with me after this watch. It wasn’t the best, it wasn’t the worst, it ended up just another film I had the chance to watch in my kitty. And hey, this just might have become the shortest review on my blog yet.

The film was released on Netflix in May 2021 and is still on if you want to check it out. Overall, I’d give this a 3/5.
