Pretty late to this game, I finally watched AndhaDhun a couple of weeks back. This Comedy Crime Thriller starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, Radhika Apte and Anil Dhawan came out in 2018. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the film was critically acclaimed for the writing and performances and went on to win several awards and do brilliantly in the box office.
So why am I writing about this now?
Well, if there’s anyone out there who has avoided watching this film because they believe that it would be a little sad is about a blind man which makes it a little sadder, you guys are the reason I’ve decided to write this review considering I was one of you a couple of weeks back.
What I loved about the movie was how the film managed to continuously surprise me through to the end. And of course, you know it is going to be interesting when pretty much everyone has something to hide. The silent sequences every now and then are beautfully put together as well.
A brilliantly choreographed plot that doesn’t lose sight of the point and knows exactly what each character is doing at every point in the story as opposed to films that tend to lose sight in between. This added with choreography to ensure that every main character has the chance to wow the audience at some point or the other takes the film to a whole new level. It took me watching the entire film (to the last minute) to realize that this was the perfect story of fear, crime, and deceit that you can’t miss. And of course, it always helps when the director leaves the audience open to interpretations and not be able to predict what is to happen.
What was a little sad to see was when after the interval, energy and speed seem to take a hit while the narrative gets a little more complicated.
Brilliant background and music put together perfectky in jsut the right spots definitely help keep us even more entertained. And of course, everything could not have come together as well without the flawless cinematogaphhy by KU Mohanan who manages to lie perfectly with omission in all the right places.
I’d give the movie a 4/5 and say, “Definitely watch if you haven’t already!”
