The Order (Series), A Review…

One hour long episodes, 10 episodes, 1 season and lots of drama and magic. That pretty much sums up the last series I watched on Netflix.

‘The Order’ follows the storyline of a Jack Morton who joins college and immediately does everything he can to join the ‘the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose’, a secret society that practices magic and what follows in his life hereon. And it’s not just magic, there are golems and werewolves and villains and heroes and what not.

Starring Jake Manley, Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, Mac Martini, Katherine Isabelle, and several other talented actors, The Order is a Horror, Drama, Supernatural series that came out March 2019. The series has also been renewed for a second season. Overall, the series has a lot going for it. A great storyline, albeit complicated, the romance here and there, what seems like a small budget, and a lot of imagination.

What works really well for the series is it’s ability, for the most part, to be able to pack a lot into each episode without getting the audience exhausted or confused. The story progresses swiftly and in just 10 episodes a major storyline comes to an end.

The main problem, however, is the many plot holes that are left in the storyline. The series also seems to overdo on a few cliches that go with the storyline. Too much drinking, especially underage, the romance that is pushed our way right in the beginning. A very predictable screenplay doesn’t do much either. While we always see all this in movies and series, they seem to come off a little odd in ‘The Order’ mainly because the priority of the series seems to come off as all this instead of the self-exploration and coming-of-age, which, in fact, are the main crux of the season.

Matt Frewer and Sam Trammell, however, seem to manage to bring the story together in their own ways with their brilliant performance and likable characters in the story. Along with this, the show’s ability to keep the audience entertained and wanting to see how things to end are what bring it all together.

I am definitely interested to see how the producers plan on moving this series forward in the next season. Overall, the series is recommendable for a one time watch. I’d give it a 2.5/5.
