2.0, A Review…

One of the recent releases in India with quite a bit of expectation and lots of hype was, of course, 2.0 that came out last week.

Starring superstar Rajinikanth (one of the prides of south India) and Akshay Kumar (one of the prides of North India) in the lead roles of a film with visual effects like no one has seen in the country.

The film continues off from the plot of the first movie in the series ( Enthiran or Robot depending on which language you watched it in) with scientist Dr. Vaseegaran and his new personal assistant ( who is a robot, of course). All of a sudden when mysterious things begin to happen, people have to come together and figure it out, and of course, Chitti has to be brought back from the dead to save the day. Along with his negative version and a brand new mini version 3.0 too.

A bit of an overstretch with the story, but that is definitely something you go into the film expecting, considering the genre, the prequel and the trailers. But going in with an open mind, you do come to terms with the story. In fact, director Shankar who is always known for his extravaganza, impresses with a very strong message that is hidden deep within the plot.

Overall, direction for the film is pretty good. Cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by Anthony, of course, stands out splendidly. But what steals the show is definitely the visual effects. The 3D definitely impresses and while you can notice problems with the rendering in a few places, the overall look is definitely brilliant.

Acting of course comes out well with a bunch highflying actors who have already established their talent in the industry.

Where the movie loses out is, however, in some simple aspects.

A antagonist who appears unusually late with a sad backstory that stretches on for too long. Simple comedy in quite a few scenes but that might just seem like an overreach in a few others. Something comparatively not very common in Indian cinema, the 3D visuals do come across as a bit of an overkill in a few scenes with way too many objects being thrown around in the foreground sometimes.

Overall, this is a brilliant film that will be remembered in Indian cinema history for the visual effects with a few things that could have been done differently. A great film, overall, and a must see.

I’d give the film a 4/5. If you haven’t had a chance yet, it’s still in theatres. Go watch it now in 3D.

    1. Hi, thank you so much. With respect to getting listed, I’d say content, SEO, and engaging with your audience to get the job done right. And this I’d suggest more from my marketing degree than my blog. But this is what I’m trying to work on at the moment.
