Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, A Review…

So the last film I went to the theatre and watched was, of course, the recently released Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

A sequel to the 2015 film Jurassic World, this one released June 2018.

Having watched the prequel only in the last year, I was still sympathetic to several characters including Owen, Claire and especially ‘Blue’. Through the entire first movie, I sat there, watching, rooting for Blue to be the hero that shone through.

Fast-forward to the new movie, I sat in the theatre watching a new spin-off storyline, still rooting for Blue. That right there is something the filmmakers have done right.

The film follows the storyline, three years after the abandoning of Jurrasic World and Isla Nublar. With a volcano that would destroy the island ready to go off any minute, its back to the heroes to save the dinosaurs and not let the species die off despite a council decision. Spoiler, they fail, but in a completely different way than you’d imagine.

Now that the bad man has stolen the dinosaurs for bidding and spoiler, creating a new killer dino, it’s back to the heroes to save the dinosaurs and save the day. Spoiler, they succeed, but in a completely different way than you’d imagine.

Right, so essentially, a basic interesting storyline that unfortunately lacked a bit in filmmaking. While the emotions that the director wanted the audience to feel exists, it, unfortunately, is much less than anticipated. For instance, the killer dinosaur that was supposed to instill fear does in the first scene it appears in, it is soon forgotten due to everything else that’s happening in the film simultaneously.

Storytelling that makes the story predictable and too much stuffed into two hours, the film, I would say is a let down from the first one.

However, beautiful cinematography, editing, and graphics definitely make up for it and give us yet another fun dinosaur movie, as long as you don’t dig too deep. The movie, of course, ends ensuring that we all know there’s another sequel coming. And of course, the third in the series is said to release in June 2021.

Personally, while there were somethings I wished they’d do different, I liked it. And I’d definitely recommend it.

I’d give the film a 4/5.
