Okay, so first things first, I know that this review is about 6 days earlier than usual, but since the movie did come out less than a week ago, so I figured I could make an exception.
So yeah, Gemini Ganesanum Suruli Rajanum starring Atharvaa is the latest talk of the town.
The film that released in theaters on 14 July 2017 stars Atharvaa Murali, Regina Cassandra, Pranitha, Aishwarya Rajesh and Aaditi Pohankar in the lead roles. (Yeah, lots of lead roles). Accentuating them perfectly, the comedy roles see a variety of great stars including the duos, Soori and Rajendran and Adithya famous Lokesh and Gopi. Along with them of course, you have T.Shiva, Mayilsami, Deena and Sonia in supporting roles.
First things first, the movie follows the story as Gemini Ganesan, brought to life by Atharvaa, lands up in Suruli Rajan’s house (Suruli Rajan being a wannabe Don who now lives in Gemini Ganesan’s old house) in search of his ex. The first few shots as the hero walks up to the door defenitely makes an impression. And there begins the story as Gemini Ganesan embars on a journey to find his ex ‘Lavanya’ with the aid of Suruli Rajan who initially, plans to utilize this oppurtunity to the fullest. And as the journey progresses, more and more information about Gemini Ganesan’s life comes to light showing his connection to his namesake, the famous Tamil Actor of the old, Gemini Ganesan.
If you’re not the kind of person who enjoys romance all that much, the first half hour might feel like a bit of a drag. But trust me, it is definitely worth it. The rest of the film is sure to have you rolling on the floor laughing. An absolute comedy riot, the movie is basically a recap of Gemini Ganesan’s life, an absolutely hilarious tale.
Acting wise, Atharvaa simply stuns with great expressions. It might feel like an overaction in a few scenes, but it truly seems like the character’s worth. The rest of the cast manages to impress too. The comedians definitely do an impressive job.
While the cinematography and the editing does not stand out, there doesnt seem to be any outright mistakes either.
Similarly, while the music accentuates the film well, it does not stand out too much either. It feels like the kind of songs you would love to hear along with the film, but might not go back and listen to alone, later. But then of course, that’s just me.
So that’s that. An absolutely hilarious film that’ll have you laughing through out. It’s a movie that’s a must watch.
But I will also say that the movie does reflect the bad side of a male taking a female for granted and being a ‘player’. But again, it certainly does feel like the movie is only meant to be taken in a light fashion. You’ll certainly enjoy it more if you don’t read too much into it.
So yea, for someone like me who was looking for a casual fun couple of hours, it was perfect.
I give it a 4.5/5.
